We provide drug (including alcohol) awareness to businesses, employees and employers. This can be delivered through E-Learning courses, or face to face training. If you care about the health and wellness of your employees, your most important resource, please read on.
Did You Know That….
- Around 200,000 people in the UK go to work with a hangover every day (Alcohol Concern)
- It is an offence to drive or attempt to drive a motor vehicle on a road or other public place, whilst unfit to drive through alcohol or drugs This also includes medication! Penalties can be severe and you could go to prison! (Road Traffic Act)
- Approximately 1 in 5 of people killed in road crashes have traces of illegal substances in their blood (RoSPA)
- In the UK an incredible 17 million working days are lost to alcohol-related sickness absence every year, or that there is a total annual alcohol-related output loss to the UK economy of up to £6.4 billion? (CIPD/NHS Partnership)
The Case for Drug Awareness in the Workplace
- It is a proactive approach to employee health issues, helping to reduce illness, accidents and injuries related to substance misuse, and increasing health and wellness, and productivity;
- It is also a response to external pressures such as government legislation and competition for companies to increase their corporate social responsibility;
- The importance of health and wellness in the workplace is being highlighted at international levels;
- According to Department for Work and Pensions, the changing demographics of the workplace population means that a workforce profile in the UK, by 2024 will be nearly 50% of the adult population aged 50 years plus;
- Employees’ expectations are increasing and that includes expectations that employers should demonstrate a commitment to and support employee health and wellness;
- Mental health is as important as physical health. Substance misuse affects both. Drug misuse impacts on an individual, their family, the workplace, the community and society as a whole;
- Drug and alcohol misuse contribute to many accidents and short term and long term illnesses, therefore costing the health service and the economy billions of pounds through absenteeism, loss of productivity, loss of motivation, stress and poor decision making;
- Everyone has a responsibility to raise their awareness about the risks and effects of substance misuse on an individual and the workplace, and to help to manage and minimise the health, social, legal, and financial impact and costs, at all levels of the organisation;
- Statistics and case studies provide clear evidence that when an organisation demonstrates a commitment to the safety, health and well-being of staff, it has immense benefits for the business, and those it employs.
